RE: Bleach: Bleach's art is very good whenever Kubo gives a fuck.. Otherwise we get stuff like THE HEART. He also has a real knack for designing characters in a very memorable style, even if he never managed to make any of them feel 3-dimensional as actual characters.

In fact I'd argue one of the reasons that Kubo's planning went to shit was because he introduced too many characters for him to properly service, maybe due to his love of designing them.
Kubo is the kind of artist who would be absolutely perfect for a Bakuman style teamup: Someone else writes the story, he draws it... though preferrably with a few assistants to draw backgrounds for him, as he evidently doesn't care one bit about those. But it's like, he's a good artist... he's just a terrible writer.
This sure is a signature.

That moment when your most anticipated new anime is worse than your least anitipated ones. :-_-
I shouldn't have to say anything about Black Clover and the pile that has become, but I've also been watching ShoBitch, which I was honestly looking forward to, and it's honestly not as good as the other anime I'm watching this season either. Imouto Sae Ireba Ii and Net-Juu, on the other hand, have been making me laugh a lot and have actually been rather enjoyable. I mean, is there anyone that won't laugh at the situation explained in the spoiler below? That and actually being interested in what happens next in Net-Juu when I'm not bothered about the current or next episode of Shobitch just proves which I'm enjoying more.

I just realised I forgot one. Not Souma S3. That's also one I shouldn't have to say anything about. I just watched the latest episode of Just Because!, remembered this comment and realised I forgot to say it's one of my favorites this season (It and Souma S3 are my favs). I wonder if anyone else is watching it...

I know what it is, but frankly it looked like some rather lethargic slice of life similar to Tsuki ga Kirei and didn't bother. I understand some might enjoy this stuff but for me its biggest worth is as a sleep aid.

Well, that's honestly why I love them both. Rather than picking a girl in a Harem or waiting for the jokes or otherwise to deliver where the story can't (and a fair few recently have felt like this tbh), I can just sit back, relax and enjoy the anime for what it is.

I don't see the connection though. All genres can be executed well or badly, this one included. If a show only relies on gimmicks like instigating Best Girl wars to stay gripping then it's not much of a show. And I'm not even saying I enjoy only story-driven anime. It's just that in this case there's very little remarkable about either story, setting or characters - it's all simply about random kids doing perfectly normal stuff. And that's just not very interesting for me. To sit back, relax and enjoy I need something that I consider enjoyable.

True. It's just as I said, though. I have seen some anime where the story sucked, but they were still good for other reasons. For the "ïnstigating Best Girl wars" part, I think of anime like Nisekoi. But for the other part I think of anime like Renai Boukun which was good for a laugh and all that, but the story was honestly a heaping mess that barely made sense. I can't think of many examples, but they exist. If you don't like it, that's fine. But as a fan of clean and simple Romance anime I rather enjoy it.

I dropped Renai Boukun at, what, episode 3? First episode was funny but then it stopped making any kind of sense. Agree that it was bad. But you're kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel there.

EDIT: Inuyashiki 5 was still very good. This show keeps being an excellent watch.

-> People complaining about crap anime about high schoolers with no story or anything of value
-> Keep picking up shows which are obviously going to be this each season
-> Don't pick up any of the less popular but actually interesting shows

edit:

Actually, speaking of less popular but actually interesting shows, I'm going to surprise you now by recommending a show which is sort of CGDCT. It certainly passed the CG but the DCT is more ambiguous because while there is a school club and some standard moe tropes, it also has murder and political scheming so yeah. Anyway:

https://myanimelist.net/anime/35240/Princess_Principal

-Alternate world steampunk London
-Girl spies
-Yuki Kajiura OST

Given that it's a CGDCT show and has Kajiura I especially recommend to Vegy-pyon who I know is a big fan of both of these things. (tbh I only gave it a chance because Kajiura - as if she'd work on some lame otaku bait demi-porn show)

I was surprised that the CGDCT factor was fairly minimal and it was actually a well-made and interesting setting and story. Fairly good production overall, solid characters and above average development of them. Mixed quality usage of nonlinear story telling, but even when it's less well done it's at least more interesting than watching a no-risk-no-reward conventionally structured show. One pretty cool plot twist, though not particularly well hidden so I think most viewers will expect something similar to it, if not all the details. Enjoyed it more than expected given the appearance.

It was last season but no one seemed to notice it between people masturbating to Made in Abyss (metaphorically) and Kakegurui (literally). I only found out about it part-way through the season and just about caught up with and finished it recently.

I feel like the winning actic with seasonal anime is
>wait until season is over
>check out public oppinion to see what's good
There are apparently people who reeeeeeally care about discussing anime as it' comingout episode by episode, but this strange breed of beast is mostly a breed called "redditors" and... well I don't have to say much else I feel.

I enjoy discussing anime on an episodic basis. I just developed a sense for what anime I'll probably like and usually play it safe - if it's in doubt, then don't pick it up and only go back to it if you hear good things about it :face-rofl.

Watching episodically is usually completely unenjoyable to me. I'm keepig up with Mahoutsukai right now, but I ried to do that with Made in Abyss too and I just ended up waiting until that finished anyway.

It really depends on the anime. Some keep my attention more than others. Thing is, I seldom if ever have the chance to marathon stuff, so it doesn't make much difference to me.

For me, I just don't lose any enjoyment by watching episodically. I can't really understand how it could be "completely unenjoyable" just because there's a week or so between episodes. If anything I like having a bit of spacing. I haven't marathoned anything (e.g. any episodes of the same thing back to back, or even more than a few spaced through one day) in years, with the exception of the odd rewatch of a particularly good string of Gintama episodes when the mood takes me (but still watch new stuff weekly).

As well as seasonal stuff, which the amount of varies based on how much stuff I am interested in there is (but is usually 0-2 episodes per weekday and 3-4 episodes per weekend-day) I typically watch 3 finished shows, alternating between episodes of them and averaging 1-2 of each per day. Usually one of the three is something like a long-ass show or a rewatch and I rarely watch more than one episode of that per day as it's going to be a grind or not particularly novel anyway.

Damn, J.C.Staff piss me off sometimes. First they screw over To Aru fans (I think...well thankfully it's finally getting the much anticipated 3rd season). Now it feels like they want little to do with Shokugeki no Soma. I mean, they rushed season 2 and IIRC they also left out part of the story at the start of season 2. Was it their idea to reduce it to 12 episodes and rush it to add the Stagiare? Or did they have no choice? Whatever the reason, I thought they'd go back to a decent pace with season 3, which does look to be a 2-cour season. Hey I can dream, right? But no. Firstly, they leave the Elite 10 meeting out and put it in an OVA. That's understandable. At least they covered it. And while the Moon Festival felt like it moved at a decent speed, the Azami take-over feels like it's moving at the same speedy pace season 2 did. Or is that just me? :face-normal
(I wonder if I'm right to be salty towards J.C.Staff, too...)
