UTW already died but is somehow back: the grail must have also summoned it as a Subber-class servant, whose subtitle producing EX-rank Noble Phantasm will once again bless the English-speaking Fate fandom.

Why is Red Caster not Sugita?  :face-normal  He's so good at this kind of role.

So i have come around to take a look at Isekai Shokudou, its Food Porn Anime. A restaurant with a magical door that opens every 7 days in multiple places of a fantasy world, filled with your typical inhabitants such as Goblins, Elfs, Dragons, Humans, etc. The restaurant scenes are pretty laid back and from the first two episodes it seems like that you get to know the other world by the memories and stories of the guests.

Overall pretty ok and its not at all over the top like Food Wars.

Knight's & Magic is on the other hand is a little bit weird. For starters the main character is for some reason a deceased programmer who is obsessed with Robots/Gundams and reincarnates in a medieval fantasy world with i would best describe as Guymelef-esque creations which are powered by magic. The main character also seems to remember his old life and is of course a genius when it comes to magic and of course he wants ride these Suits. I am curious to see where it goes.

So it seems waking up in another (fantasy/magical) world is the new anime fad. KonoSuba, Re;Zero, others I don't know and now Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni. I just watched the first episode of Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni and it reminds me a lot of KonoSuba and a little of Re;Zero. Except this MC seems to have a level head and is gifted thanks to Kami-sama. I'm told it's the next KonoSuba. Not nearly as funny, but I'll give it a shot.

Yeah, that's been a thing for a while. People even have a name for it; "Isekai". (Which literally just means "Different world".) I think the fad really exploded after Sword Art Online, which despite technically being set in a game, still has basically all the same tropes. KonoSuba is clearly a parody of the genre.
This sure is a signature.

I wondered if I should've mentioned SAO, but decided Virtual Reality and different worlds are pretty much different things. (Not different enough, it seems.) And yeah, SAO is the one that really revived the fad and has so many knock-offs. Actually, I even forgot KonoSuba was a parody of the genre tbh. ^_^;

Throw in the lot Log Horizon, Overlord and No Game No Life for that matter. The genre has slowly shifted from "trapped in a game" (SAO) to "trapped in a game world that became real" (LH) to "trapped in a parallel world that just sort of happens to work a bit like a game" (everything that came after, and KonoSuba especially of course).

Personally I really like Isekai, so I have some stuff to keep an eye on this season.

The pacing in Knight's & Magic is ridiculous so far, the first episode covered the whole first novel. The first episode has two timeskips. So it skipped over quite a lot of things, but the anime is still follow-able. But falters on the smaller details like "When did the MC learn swordfighting?".

I haven't actually seen Isekai Shokudou and Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni yet.
Cui bono?

Don't forget Grimgar and DanMachi. (I knew I was fogetting a lot...) Grimgar was more realistic, like "we're in a game world, but it's so real that even one wound can prove to be fatal". I actually found it rather interesting and quite liked it. Better than most knock-offs imo. While DanMachi has it's fantasy world and game-like dungeon, but is still a giant parody on the whole genre like KonoSuba. It even had decent action for a parody and I thought it was rather good. (I still need to watch the Sword Oratoria spin-off from last season, though.)

Just watched the first episodes of Hajimete no Gal and Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e.
With Gal, I'm not really sure about it yet...aside from how I feel. Like it's a guilty pleasure and that I feel like I'm watching an anime full of hentai protagonists. :-_-
Youkoso on the other hand is pretty interesting. The premise is similar to Assassination Classroom without the Assassination part. (Or Baka and Test without the battles.) Not to mention, the 3 main characters remind me of Oregairu. Even the school's point system reminds me of other anime. (Gakuen Toshi Asterisk, I think...) This one I'm totally invested in.

Everyone go watch episode 1 of Jikan no Shihaisha. It's worth watching just to see how bad it is.

I've heard that of way too many shows this season  :face-sad.

On another note... you MAY want to try checking out Guru Guru Magical Circle whatever. It's not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination but it seems a pretty funny show. Which is more than I can say of most stuff I've tried yet (both "A centaur's life" and "Restaurant in the other world" were rather meh for me. And I still didn't check out the non-Crunchyroll shows as I need to follow... darker routes to access them).

Yeah, it's a pretty bad season by all counts. Jikan no Shihaisha especially is hilariously pathetic though. I spent most of the first episode just saying "Are you shitting me?" over and over again. It's trying so hard to be edgy that I was expecting it to segue into a Naruto AMV about Sasuke with Linkin Park music. Instead of actually coming across as cool bishounens as apparently intended, the main characters seem more like bad cosplayers with a chuunibyou complex. Also they are called Putin.

Actually, the one on the right is a boy... what's the issue anyway? It's not pedo shit if that's what worries you. It's just a silly comedy series about a Dragon Quest-like fantasy setting. Kid doesn't want to be a hero but his parents dream of having a famous son so they basically kick him out of home as soon as the king calls for someone to beat the resident Dark Lord, and from there it goes as he reluctantly makes his way through the various quests and the monster-infested world map.
