Moving to Japan

I'm thinking of quitting my job and getting a student visa and living in japan...

anyone done that?

what sort of things did you have to do for it?

 

Sorry for the late answer, for the first thing I'd like to wish you the best and I hope that you get to go!

I've got my two best friends currently in Japan studying the languange, in Tokyo actually. They went off to do it together 42 days ago, one of them plans to stay 2 years and the other one 1 year. From what they have told me they have gotten to see very very little enjoyable of the Japanese culture.
They say that they enjoy their stay and that it's all good but everytime I talk to them they sound very bored. Except 3-4 ventures into akihabara, a bath in a hotspring and a very confusing visit to a karaoke booth with all its karaoke in Japanese characters and thus very unreadable they haven't done anything to get hyped about in 42 days.
They basically spend their time studying and playing psp on their room, if that were me it would just frustrate me to be in Japan but not being able to do any of the awesome things you wanna do.

I choose to not go because: 1)Not to lose my special feelings for Japan, I feel that a year is far too long of a stay 2) Money, its veeery expensive, they both go there on loans and they got like 18 000$ each in one swoop to cover their first 2-3 months. 3) Family circumstances.

Just felt like sharing my experience, if you can call it that.

I know you've been there 10 times and all, It's just that living there full time is different especially under the pressure of work, rent etc..

How about you just stay there for a short stay, A few months or so and then you can see for yourself whether you wanna live there or not.

Japan is expensive in some places, particularly in Tokyo from what I have heard. But What city isn't? I mean what REALLY BIG city isn't? Plus Japan is worth it because of all the artistic freedom there! Though Tokyo is kind of turning to crap in that department.

When I finish my undergraduate degree, if I stay here in Nottingham, they pay physics postgrads to assist part time with teaching and lab work and stuff, and the pay rate for that is something like £30/hour according to one of the people who currently does it. That's $47 per hour. Although you do need an undergraduate degree in Physics to get the job, I'd say that's pretty win.

Just wondering Chris, what´s the average pay when working in a completely normal store? like clothes, food etc.

Near the minimum wage for stuff like that I'd guess. Probably around £7 / $11
